Are Bad Habits Hurting Your Back? Part 3

Your back plays a big part in your quality of life. It does a lot of work for you every day, and if you don’t take care of it, you’ll experience back pain. However, even when you think you’re taking care of your back, you probably have bad habits that are hurting it. That is why we have been examining everyday habits that hurt our backs over time. In our last blog, we discussed wearing high heels and pushing back pain away rather than getting it treated. Today, we are going to share some more insights.

You love doing crunches

Though having a stronger core does protect your back, crunches don’t get the job done. They don’t strengthen the muscles that steady your back; in fact, they destabilize your back and cause pain. We recommend that you incorporate broader core exercises into your crunch routine. You will notice the benefits!

You have a long drive to work

We know that you can’t always control the distance you have to drive to work. What you can control, however, is your form. Make sure that you are sitting at a 90-degree angle and that you are sitting close enough to the wheel that you don’t have to stretch your arms or legs to reach the wheel and pedals. Doing so will help you avoid tightening chest muscles and rounded shoulders. It will also help you stay awake – slumping automatically drains energy!
